Overview

Volociximab is a chimeric human/murine IgG4 monoclonal antibody that targets the integrin alpha(5)beta(1) (α5β1) receptor, a major fibronectin receptor involved in angiogenesis. By binding to and inhibiting α5β1 integrin, volociximab blocks the interaction between endothelial cells and fibronectin in the extracellular matrix, thereby inhibiting angiogenesis and inducing apoptosis of proliferating endothelial cells. This mechanism disrupts tumor neovascularization and has potential antineoplastic effects. Volociximab was developed for use in various solid tumors including renal cell carcinoma, melanoma, pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, ovarian cancer, and other malignancies[1][2][3][6][10].
