Volociximab + dacarbazine is a combination therapy investigated primarily for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. Volociximab is a chimeric monoclonal antibody (IgG4) that specifically targets and binds to α5β1 integrin, an extracellular matrix receptor involved in angiogenesis, tumor growth, and metastasis. By inhibiting α5β1 integrin, volociximab acts as an angiogenesis inhibitor and antineoplastic agent[6][8]. Dacarbazine is an alkylating agent (purine analog) used as chemotherapy for melanoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, and other cancers; it works by interfering with DNA synthesis and function in rapidly dividing cells[2][4][7]. The combination has been studied in phase 2 clinical trials for patients with metastatic melanoma not previously treated with chemotherapy[1][3].
