Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Volociximab + gemcitabine is an investigational combination therapy consisting of **volociximab**, a chimeric monoclonal antibody targeting the α5β1 integrin involved in tumor angiogenesis, and **gemcitabine**, a nucleoside analog chemotherapeutic agent. Volociximab works by binding to and inhibiting α5β1 integrin, thereby blocking the establishment of new blood vessels (angiogenesis) necessary for tumor growth. Gemcitabine inhibits DNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells. This combination has been evaluated in metastatic pancreatic cancer for its safety and efficacy in enhancing anti-tumor effects[2][3].
