Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VOLT-Syk is a preclinical-stage small molecule inhibitor of spleen tyrosine kinase (Syk) being developed by Levolta Pharmaceuticals (formerly known as Volt Pharma). Syk is a non-receptor cytoplasmic tyrosine kinase that plays a pivotal role in the signaling pathways of various immune receptors, including the B-cell receptor (BCR) and Fc receptors (FcR) found on mast cells, macrophages, and neutrophils. By inhibiting Syk activity, the drug aims to disrupt the downstream inflammatory signaling cascades that lead to the activation and degranulation of these immune cells. This mechanism is intended to treat neutrophil-mediated inflammatory diseases and vasculitis, where aberrant neutrophil activation drives tissue damage and vascular inflammation. The program is currently in the preclinical phase of development.
