Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Vonacor is a dietary supplement and medical food designed for the dietary management of osteoarthritis and joint pain. Developed by Optimal Laboratories, a company founded by sports medicine physician Dr. Vad and pharmacist Steven Gelwan, the product features a specialized formulation of curcumin known as MicroActive Curcumin. This turmeric root extract is standardized to 25% curcuminoids and combined with turmeric oil in a 500mg capsule. Vonacor utilizes patented MicroActive microtechnology to enhance the bioavailability of curcumin, achieving a 9.7-fold increase in absorption compared to standard curcumin formulations. Mechanistically, Vonacor works by regulating the body's inflammatory response, specifically by blocking Interleukin-1 (IL-1) and modulating various inflammatory enzymes and cytokines to support joint health and mobility. The product is marketed as a vegan, non-GMO, and gluten-free option available through physicians' offices, pharmacies, and direct-to-consumer channels.
