Voxvoganan (LTX-109) is a synthetic broad-spectrum antimicrobial peptidomimetic designed for topical use. It is a tripeptide derivative that acts by disrupting microbial cell membranes through rapid lytic activity, leading to cell lysis and death. This mechanism mimics innate immune effectors known as lytic peptides. Voxvoganan has demonstrated potent bactericidal activity against Gram-positive bacteria—including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-intermediate and -resistant S. aureus (VISA/VRSA)—as well as efficacy against bacterial and fungal biofilms[3][4][5][7]. It also exhibits virucidal effects in vitro against SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza A[10]. The drug has a low propensity for resistance development due to its novel membrane-targeting action[5][8]. Clinical trials have explored its use in nasal decolonization of S. aureus (including MRSA/MSSA), skin infections such as impetigo and atopic dermatitis, COVID-19-related respiratory infections, hidradenitis suppurativa, and other Gram-positive skin infections[1][4][6].
