VP-103

VP-103 is a proprietary, cantharidin-based drug-device combination product under development by Verrica Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of plantar warts. It is Verrica’s second cantharidin-based candidate, following VP-102 (YCANTH), which is approved for molluscum contagiosum. Like its predecessor, VP-103 utilizes a GMP-controlled formulation of cantharidin delivered via a single-use applicator designed to enable precise topical dosing and targeted administration. The primary indication in development for VP-103 is plantar warts, which are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection on the soles of the feet[2][3][5][7]. The mechanism of action involves stimulation of serine proteases leading to blister formation and subsequent destruction of wart tissue[4]. As of June 2025, clinical trials for VP-103 have not yet advanced beyond preclinical or early clinical stages.
