Overview

VP015 is a preclinical drug candidate developed by Vasogen Inc. as part of its proprietary 'VP series' of anti-inflammatory therapies. The drug is based on a platform of synthetic three-dimensional phospholipid-based structures (microparticles) designed to modulate the immune system by regulating cytokine levels. Specifically, VP015 has been shown to increase the concentration of the anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-4 (IL-4) while simultaneously decreasing pro-inflammatory markers such as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β). It was primarily investigated for its potential to treat neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative conditions, including age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. In preclinical models, VP015 demonstrated the ability to restore impaired long-term potentiation (LTP) in the hippocampus of aged or lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated rats by promoting a more anti-inflammatory microenvironment.
