VP025 is an experimental drug formulation consisting of phospholipid microparticles or nanoparticles incorporating phosphatidylglycerol. It is designed to modulate neuroinflammation by interacting with antigen-presenting cells of the immune system, thereby regulating tissue levels of cytokines and controlling inflammation associated with neurodegenerative disorders. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that VP025 can inhibit activation of microglia and macrophages, reduce inflammatory signaling (notably via inhibition of p38 MAP kinase), preserve memory and learning function in models exposed to beta-amyloid, delay disease onset in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis models, and prevent motor deficits in Parkinson’s disease models. The drug has completed phase I clinical trials showing safety and tolerability in healthy volunteers, with plans for further development targeting neuroinflammatory conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis[1][2][4][5][6][7][9].
