VPX-638

VPX-638 is a topical formulation of the volatile anesthetic sevoflurane, developed by Vapogenix for the management of acute and chronic wound pain. Unlike its traditional use as an inhaled general anesthetic, VPX-638 is applied locally to painful wounds—such as diabetic foot ulcers, venous ulcers, and burns—to provide rapid-onset (within 10 minutes) and sustained (up to 24 hours) non-opioid analgesia. The formulation is designed to deliver the anesthetic directly to the site of pain, minimizing systemic exposure and avoiding the side effects associated with opioids or systemic anesthetics. In addition to its analgesic properties, VPX-638 has demonstrated antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects in clinical studies. It has completed Phase 2 clinical trials, showing a significant reduction in opioid requirements for patients with chronic and acute wounds.
