Overview

**VR-AD-1005** is an investigational oral antisecretory treatment for acute watery diarrhea caused by cholera. It is described as a fixed-dose, two-component formulation containing a cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator inhibitor and an intestinal-wall-adherent component intended to reduce convective washout in the gut. By inhibiting cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator activity that is persistently activated downstream of cholera toxin, it is intended to reduce intestinal chloride and water secretion, stool output, and rehydration requirements without impairing intestinal motility. The program originated at Vanessa Biotech and is being advanced by Hunazine Biotech; a completed Phase 2 study in Bangladesh was followed by a funded Phase 3 development project in sub-Saharan Africa.
