Overview

**VRC-HIVDNA006-00-VP** is an investigational multiclade HIV-1 DNA plasmid vaccine developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Vaccine Research Center for prevention of HIV-1 infection. The vaccine encodes HIV-1 Gag, Pol, Nef, and Env antigens; after intramuscular administration, host cells express these antigens to induce HIV-specific cellular and humoral immune responses without exposing recipients to infectious HIV. It was evaluated in a randomized Phase 1 study in uninfected adults at 2 mg, 4 mg, and 8 mg dose levels, administered monthly for three doses by needle-free intramuscular injection.
