VRC-HIVVCP0108-00-VP (also known as FP8v1-rTTHC) is an experimental HIV-1 vaccine candidate developed by the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The vaccine consists of an 8-amino acid HIV-1 fusion peptide (FP8v1) conjugated to a recombinant tetanus toxoid heavy chain fragment C (rTTHC) carrier protein via a sulfo-SIAB chemical linker. It is designed to elicit broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) by targeting the highly conserved fusion peptide region of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein (Env), which is critical for viral fusion and entry into host cells. VRC-HIVVCP0108-00-VP is typically formulated with the Adjuplex adjuvant and is being investigated in Phase 1 clinical trials (e.g., NCT05470400/HVTN 303) to evaluate its safety and immunogenicity, often as part of prime-boost regimens involving HIV-1 envelope trimer vaccines such as Trimer 4571 and Trimer 6931.
