Overview

VRC02 is an investigational **anti-HIV-1 broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibody** developed by the National Institutes of Health through the Vaccine Research Center. It was isolated from peripheral blood B cells of an HIV-1-infected donor and belongs to the same clonal antibody family as VRC01 and VRC03. VRC02 binds the **CD4-binding site on the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein gp120**, thereby neutralizing susceptible virus and blocking viral entry into host cells. The program was explored for HIV infection but clinical development was not successful because of viral escape through mutation.
