VRC4302 is a first-generation HIV-1 DNA plasmid vaccine candidate (9170 bp) developed by inserting HIV-1 genes into the pVR1012x/s plasmid backbone. It encodes modified gag-pol proteins from HIV-1, designed to stimulate an immune response without causing infection. The vaccine contains deletions in the protease-, RT-, and integrase-coding regions to eliminate biological activities of these viral proteins for safety reasons.
