VRON-0200

VRON-0200 is a first-in-class therapeutic immunotherapy designed as a functional cure for chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It is administered by intramuscular injection and aims to restore and expand HBV-specific CD8+ T cell responses, which are typically exhausted in chronic infection. The therapy uses a checkpoint modifier to lower the activation threshold of T cells, enabling them to target sub-dominant HBV epitopes not usually activated during natural infection. This results in broad and durable anti-HBV immune responses, including significant increases in T cell activity and reductions in HBV surface antigen levels even after a single dose. VRON-0200 targets the core and polymerase regions of HBV using antigens selected through extensive viral genome screening for broad HLA coverage. The drug is being developed by Virion Therapeutics, with Ocean Biomedical as a joint venture partner[1][2][5][7][8].
