Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VRP-001 is an orally available antibiotic adjuvant entity (AAE) and antibiotic resistance breaker (ARB) being developed by Venus Remedies for the treatment of bacterial infections, specifically multi-drug resistant Gram-negative infections. It is formulated using Venus Remedies' proprietary Stealth Targeted Nanoparticles (STN) platform technology, which utilizes a pH-sensitive, biodegradable, and biocompatible polymeric backbone. This stealth coating allows the nanoparticles to bypass macrophagic detection by the immune system, while a targeting moiety facilitates the oral delivery of drugs with low bioavailability (such as BCS Class III and IV compounds). VRP-001 acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor to restore the efficacy of co-administered beta-lactam antibiotics against resistant pathogens. It is currently in preclinical development.
