Overview
VRP-035 is a novel formulation of the aminoglycoside antibiotic amikacin, currently under development by Venus Remedies. The drug utilizes the company's proprietary RENAL GUARD™ technology, which is specifically designed to mitigate the nephrotoxicity typically associated with aminoglycoside therapy. Like standard amikacin, VRP-035 exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis and leading to bacterial cell death. It is primarily targeted at treating serious Gram-negative bacterial infections where renal safety is a significant clinical concern. As of the latest pipeline updates, VRP-035 is in the preclinical stage of development.
