Overview

VRP-044 is a preclinical-stage antibiotic candidate being developed by Venus Remedies. It is a novel formulation of colistin (polymyxin E) that incorporates the proprietary RENAL GUARD™ technology, designed to reduce the nephrotoxicity typically associated with colistin treatment. Colistin is a 'last-resort' antibiotic that acts by disrupting the cell membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, but its clinical use is severely constrained by its potential to cause kidney damage. VRP-044 aims to provide a safer therapeutic option for treating multi-drug resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections by maintaining potent antimicrobial activity while minimizing renal impairment.
