VRP-048 is a preclinical-stage oral combination therapy developed by Venus Medicine Research Centre (VMRC) for the treatment of bacterial infections, particularly those involving antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The drug candidate combines meropenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic, with MET-X, a proprietary antibiotic resistance breaker (ARB). VRP-048 utilizes VMRC's Stealth Targeted Nanoparticles (STN) platform, which is engineered to facilitate the oral delivery of BCS Class III and IV antibiotics that are typically restricted to intravenous administration.
