Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VRT-044 is a novel formulation of the polymyxin antibiotic colistin, developed by Venus Medicine Research Centre (VMRC). It utilizes VMRC's proprietary **Renal Guard Technology**, which is designed to mitigate colistin-associated nephrotoxicity—a significant dose-limiting side effect that restricts the clinical utility of colistin as a last-resort treatment for multi-drug resistant (MDR) infections. By reducing renal damage while maintaining potent antibacterial activity, VRT-044 aims to provide a safer therapeutic option for treating severe infections caused by antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) Gram-negative bacteria. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
