Overview

VS-101 is a next-generation PEGylated human hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier (HBOC) designed to serve as a shelf-stable blood substitute for hypovolemic resuscitation, particularly in trauma and pre-hospital settings where immediate access to whole blood is limited. The drug features high oxygen affinity and hyperoncotic pressure, enabling it to maintain blood pressure, tissue perfusion, and oxygenation without causing vasoconstriction. Its primary intended use is for the management of severe hemorrhagic shock and related conditions requiring rapid restoration of circulatory volume and oxygen delivery[1].
