Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VS001 is a proprietary intranasal formulation of vardenafil, a potent and selective inhibitor of cGMP-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5), currently under development by Vigorous Solutions (a subsidiary of Drug Rediscovery Group) for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. By utilizing an intranasal delivery route, VS001 is designed to bypass first-pass metabolism, potentially offering a more rapid onset of action and improved bioavailability compared to traditional oral PDE5 inhibitors like Levitra. Vardenafil acts by inhibiting the PDE5 enzyme in the corpus cavernosum, which prevents the degradation of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). Elevated levels of cGMP lead to smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow to the penis, facilitating an erection in response to sexual stimulation.
