Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VS002A is a proprietary, multiple amino acid-based oral rehydration solution (ORS) developed by Entrinsic Bioscience (formerly Entrinsic Health Solutions). It is designed as a medical food for the management of dehydration associated with non-cholera acute watery diarrhea, particularly in pediatric populations. Unlike standard WHO-ORS, which relies on glucose-sodium cotransport via the SGLT1 protein, VS002A utilizes a specific ratio of amino acids to activate sodium-coupled amino acid transporters in the small intestine. This alternative pathway remains functional even when glucose-mediated transport is compromised by intestinal pathogens, potentially offering superior rehydration efficacy. The candidate has been evaluated in randomized, double-blind clinical trials comparing its safety and efficacy to the standard glucose-based WHO-ORS.
