VSF-173 is an oral small molecule drug candidate developed by Vanda Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of excessive sleepiness. It has demonstrated effects on animal sleep/wake patterns and gene expression, suggesting wake-promoting properties. The mechanism of action for VSF-173 remains undefined. Clinical studies have shown that it can improve wakefulness in models of excessive sleepiness, with efficacy similar to that observed with modafinil in narcolepsy. The drug reached Phase II clinical trials.
