Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VSM™ (Villani Sponge Matrix) is a professional-grade cosmetic biomaterial developed by Villani Medical for in-office aesthetic skin resurfacing and rejuvenation procedures. Derived from a unique variant of the freshwater sponge *Spongilla lacustris*, the product consists of a powder containing uniformly sized micro-spicules (the sponge's natural silica skeleton) and bioactive compounds. During the Villani Treatment™ procedure, the matrix is reconstituted and massaged into the skin, where the spicules penetrate the epidermis to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin and increase localized blood flow without causing significant injury. This mechanical and biochemical action serves as an alternative to microdermabrasion, chemical peels, or laser treatments for addressing acne, sun damage, fine lines, and superficial scarring. While it functions similarly to a medical device, it is classified as a professional skincare biomaterial rather than a pharmaceutical drug.
