**VSV-cIFNβ-NIS** is a recombinant, replication-competent oncolytic virus based on vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), engineered to express the *canine* interferon-beta (IFNβ) gene and the sodium iodide symporter (NIS) gene. The virus selectively replicates in and lyses malignant cells, particularly those with impaired Type I interferon responses. Expression of the IFNβ transgene restricts viral spread in normal cells and promotes antitumor immunity, while the NIS gene allows infected cells to take up radioisotopes, enabling noninvasive imaging (and potentially therapeutic targeting) of virus-infected tumor cells. The VSV-cIFNβ-NIS construct is primarily developed and studied for use in preclinical (canine) cancer models and veterinary oncology, with mechanisms and properties analogous to its humanized variant (VSV-hIFNβ-NIS) under clinical development for human cancer treatment[1][11][13].
