Overview

VSV-GP-OVA is a genetically engineered oncolytic viral vector and cancer vaccine candidate. It is based on the Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV) platform, where the native VSV glycoprotein (G) has been replaced with the glycoprotein (GP) of the Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis Virus (LCMV). This modification is designed to eliminate the neurotoxicity associated with wild-type VSV and to reduce the induction of neutralizing antibodies, allowing for repeated administration. The 'OVA' designation indicates that the vector has been further modified to express ovalbumin as a model target antigen. VSV-GP-OVA functions by selectively infecting and lysing tumor cells (oncolysis) while simultaneously stimulating a robust systemic cytotoxic CD8+ T cell response against cells expressing the encoded antigen. It is extensively used in preclinical research to evaluate dose-response, routes of administration, and heterologous prime-boost strategies in oncology.
