**VSV-HSV1-sr39tk** is an investigational recombinant oncolytic vesicular stomatitis virus engineered to express the mutant herpes simplex virus type 1 thymidine kinase reporter gene, **HSV1-sr39tk**. In a preclinical orthotopic hepatocellular carcinoma model in immunocompetent Buffalo rats, the virus was administered intratumorally and enabled noninvasive PET imaging of infected tumors using the HSV1-sr39tk reporter system while retaining the lytic antitumor activity of oncolytic VSV.
