Overview

VSV-Indiana HIV gag is a recombinant viral vector vaccine candidate developed by Profectus BioSciences in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). It utilizes a live-attenuated, replication-competent Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV) Indiana serotype vector engineered to express the HIV-1 Gag protein. The Gag protein is a highly conserved internal structural protein of HIV, intended to elicit robust T-cell mediated immune responses. The vaccine has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials both as a standalone agent in healthy volunteers and as a booster following DNA vaccine priming (such as the Profectus HIV MAG pDNA vaccine) in both HIV-uninfected and HIV-infected individuals. The goal of this approach is to induce long-lasting cellular immunity to control or prevent HIV infection.
