Overview

VT1092 is an oncolytic herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) engineered to express the cytokine interleukin-12 (IL-12), developed by Beijing WellGene Biotech. It is designed as a dual-action immunotherapy for solid tumors, including melanoma and glioma. The therapeutic mechanism involves the selective replication of the HSV-1 vector within cancer cells, leading to direct oncolysis, while the local expression of the IL-12 gene stimulates a potent antitumor immune response by activating T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. VT1092 has entered Phase I clinical trials to evaluate its safety and tolerability via intratumoral injection in patients with recurrent or metastatic solid tumors. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that VT1092 can enhance the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors targeting the PD-1/PD-L1 pathway.
