Drug intelligence / Profile preview
vTau is an active immunotherapy candidate developed by the Australian biotechnology company Vaxine, designed to target pathological tau protein in the brain. The vaccine consists of a recombinant human tau protein formulated with Vaxine's proprietary Advax adjuvant, which is derived from delta-inulin. vTau is intended for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies, where the accumulation of hyperphosphorylated tau into neurofibrillary tangles is a hallmark of neurodegeneration. By inducing a robust humoral immune response, the vaccine stimulates the production of anti-tau antibodies that facilitate the clearance of extracellular tau and inhibit the cell-to-cell template-driven spread of tau pathology, potentially slowing cognitive decline.
