Overview

VTC-G15 is a synthetic pentapeptide that corresponds to the C-terminal amino acid sequence 28–32 of the hormone Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Specifically, it is the amidated form, GLP-1(28-32)amide, with the sequence Thr-Phe-Thr-Ser-Glu-NH2. Unlike the parent GLP-1 molecule, which stimulates insulin secretion via the GLP-1 receptor, VTC-G15 has been observed to modulate whole-body glucose metabolism through insulin-independent pathways. Research, particularly by investigators at the University of Copenhagen, has demonstrated that this pentapeptide can increase the glucose infusion rate required to maintain stable hyperglycemia in animal models and humans, suggesting it enhances peripheral glucose uptake or suppresses hepatic glucose production without affecting systemic insulin or glucagon levels. It has been investigated in early-phase clinical trials for its potential application in treating insulin resistance and improving glucose homeostasis.
