VTP-02 is a radiopharmaceutical candidate in Phase 1 development by Var2 Pharmaceuticals for cancer imaging and potential radiotherapeutic applications. The molecule is a recombinant fusion protein comprising a single-chain variable fragment (scFv) of Vartumab, which targets oncofetal chondroitin sulfate (ofCS), a tumor-specific glycosaminoglycan modification found on a wide range of solid tumors but absent from most healthy tissues. To optimize pharmacokinetics, the scFv is fused to an albumin-binding domain (ABD) to extend its circulatory half-life. For positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, the construct is conjugated to the radioisotope Zirconium-89 (89Zr) using a deferoxamine (DFO) chelator. VTP-02 is designed to enable the detection and monitoring of ofCS-expressing tumors, serving as a diagnostic component of a theranostic platform.
