Overview
**VVG 203** is an investigational oral preventive HIV-1 vaccine consisting of a live attenuated recombinant *Salmonella Typhi* CVD 908 Δasd bacterial vector carrying plasmid pW57-asd+ and expressing the HIV-1 LAI envelope glycoprotein gp120 antigen. It was evaluated by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in a Phase I study in HIV-1-uninfected volunteers, both alone and in a prime-boost study design with separately administered parenteral HIV-1 MN rgp120 in alum. The intended mechanism is mucosal and systemic immune priming against HIV-1 envelope gp120 to support prevention of HIV-1 infection.
