VVN1901 is a potent and selective small molecule agonist of the Tropomyosin receptor kinase A (TrkA), currently in clinical development by VivaVision Biotech (Weimou Biotechnology) for the treatment of neurotrophic keratitis (NK). Neurotrophic keratitis is a rare, degenerative corneal disease characterized by a loss of corneal sensation and impaired epithelial healing due to damage to the trigeminal nerve. VVN1901 is designed to mimic the biological activity of nerve growth factor (NGF), which is the endogenous ligand for TrkA and is essential for maintaining corneal integrity and promoting nerve repair. By activating the TrkA receptor, VVN1901 stimulates corneal epithelial cell proliferation, migration, and nerve regeneration. The drug is formulated as a topical ophthalmic solution, offering a potentially more stable and accessible alternative to recombinant human NGF therapies.
