Overview

VVN539 is a first-in-class, dual-mechanism small molecule ophthalmic solution developed for the treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It acts as both a Rho-associated kinase (ROCK) inhibitor and a nitric oxide (NO) donor. By inhibiting ROCK1 and ROCK2 and releasing NO, VVN539 increases cyclic GMP levels in trabecular meshwork cells, leading to relaxation of this tissue and enhanced aqueous humor outflow, thereby lowering intraocular pressure (IOP). Clinical studies have shown that VVN539 significantly reduces IOP with good safety and tolerability profiles. The drug is being developed by VivaVision Biotech[1][2][4][5][6][7][8].
