Overview

VVX003 is a preclinical peptide-based vaccine candidate developed by Viravaxx in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna for the prevention of the common cold and human rhinovirus (HRV) infections. The vaccine utilizes a technology platform that identifies and converts immuno-dominant protein epitopes from the HRV coat proteins VP1 and VP2 into potent antigens. These antigens are designed to elicit a strong IgG antibody response targeting invariant regions of the virus necessary for receptor binding and entry. This mechanism is intended to provide broad-spectrum protection against the more than 200 known HRV serotypes. As of 2024, the program was in the preclinical research stage, though the developer's subsequent inactivity suggests development may have stalled.
