Overview

VX-409 is a small molecule, subtype-selective sodium channel modulator developed by Vertex Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with GSK for the treatment of pain. Specifically targeted at inflammatory and neuropathic pain, the compound was designed to selectively inhibit voltage-gated sodium channels (Nav) involved in pain signaling while avoiding the side effects associated with non-selective blockers. VX-409 entered Phase I clinical trials in early 2007; however, development was subsequently discontinued, and the partnership shifted focus toward backup compounds within the same chemical series.
