VX-668

VX-668 is a small molecule drug developed by Vertex Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD), a rare genetic disorder that can cause serious lung and liver disease. VX-668 acts as an alpha 1-antitrypsin modulator, aiming to correct the misfolding of the AAT protein caused by mutations in the SERPINA1 gene. The drug was designed to increase functional AAT protein levels and thereby reduce organ damage associated with AATD. VX-668 reached phase 1 clinical trials, where its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics were evaluated in healthy volunteers.
