Overview
VX-840 is an oral small molecule inhibitor of apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1) being developed by Vertex Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of APOL1-mediated kidney diseases. The drug acts by inhibiting the activity of APOL1, a protein implicated in certain forms of kidney disease, particularly those associated with genetic variants leading to increased risk in affected populations. As a novel therapeutic agent targeting this pathway, VX-840 represents a new approach to treating APOL1-mediated nephropathies. The compound has completed phase 1 clinical trials evaluating its safety and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers.
