Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VX01 is a first-in-class humanized monoclonal antibody (IgG1) being developed by Vitalex Biosciences for the treatment and prevention of mucormycosis, a highly lethal fungal infection caused by Mucorales. The antibody specifically targets the CotH3 fungal invasin, a cell surface protein that is critical for the fungus to invade host endothelial cells. By binding to CotH3, VX01 neutralizes the fungal ability to invade tissues and enhances immune-mediated clearance of the pathogen. Preclinical studies in murine models have demonstrated that VX01 provides protective effects both as a standalone therapy and in synergy with existing FDA-approved antifungal agents. Vitalex Biosciences, a spinoff from The Lundquist Institute, has secured SBIR Phase 2 grant funding from the NIAID/NIH to support manufacturing scale-up and IND-enabling toxicology studies, with the objective of advancing the candidate into Phase I clinical trials.
