VXA-A1.1

VXA-A1.1 is an investigational oral tablet vaccine developed for the prevention of influenza A (H1N1) infection. It utilizes a proprietary recombinant adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vector platform to deliver genes encoding the hemagglutinin antigen and a double-stranded RNA adjuvant directly to mucosal epithelial cells in the small intestine[2][5]. This approach aims to induce robust mucosal immunity, particularly secretory IgA and T cell responses, which are believed to be critical for protection against respiratory viruses like influenza[2][4]. Clinical studies have shown that VXA-A1.1 provides comparable or superior protection against clinical disease and viral shedding compared with traditional intramuscular inactivated vaccines, despite eliciting lower neutralizing antibody titers[2][4]. The oral tablet formulation is stable at room temperature and designed for ease of administration without needles[6].
