Overview

VXA-CoV2-1 is a non-replicating adenoviral vector-based oral tablet vaccine candidate developed for the prevention of COVID-19. It expresses antigens from the SARS-CoV‑2 spike and nucleocapsid proteins, along with a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) adjuvant to enhance immune response. The primary mechanism is immunostimulation, aiming to induce both mucosal and systemic immunity by generating neutralizing antibodies (notably secretory IgA in mucosal tissues) and robust CD8+ T cell responses against SARS‑CoV‑2. Clinical studies have shown that it elicits cross-reactive mucosal IgA capable of neutralizing multiple variants, including delta and omicron, as well as other human coronaviruses. The formulation is shelf-stable at room temperature, making it suitable for broad distribution[1][3][4][5][6][7].
