Overview

VXA-G1.1-NN-T is a next-generation oral norovirus vaccine candidate developed by Vaxart. It utilizes a non-replicating adenovirus type 5 (Ad5)-based viral vector platform engineered to express the VP1 major capsid protein of the norovirus GI.1 (Norwalk) strain. The vaccine includes a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) adjuvant to enhance both mucosal and systemic immune responses. Formulated as an enteric-coated tablet, it is designed to bypass the acidic environment of the stomach and release the viral vector in the small intestine, where it targets the intestinal mucosa. This candidate is being evaluated as part of a bivalent program (alongside VXA-G2.4-NS-T) to provide broad protection against acute gastroenteritis caused by multiple norovirus strains.
