Drug intelligence / Profile preview
VXA-RSV-f is an investigational oral tablet vaccine developed by Vaxart for the prevention of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) infection. It utilizes Vaxart's proprietary VAAST (Vector-Adjuvant-Antigen Standardized Technology) platform, which employs a non-replicating adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) vector to deliver the gene for the RSV fusion (F) protein to the intestinal mucosa. The vaccine also incorporates a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) adjuvant that acts as a Toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) agonist to enhance the mucosal and systemic immune response. By targeting the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT), VXA-RSV-f aims to induce potent mucosal immunity (IgA) in the respiratory tract, as well as systemic neutralizing antibodies and T-cell responses, providing a more convenient and potentially more effective alternative to injectable RSV vaccines.
