Overview

VXB-221 is a monovalent protein subunit vaccine candidate designed to protect against human metapneumovirus (hMPV) infection. Developed by Vicebio (a subsidiary of Sanofi), the vaccine utilizes proprietary Molecular Clamp technology to stabilize the hMPV fusion (F) glycoprotein in its highly immunogenic prefusion conformation. This stabilization is intended to elicit a potent neutralizing antibody response, addressing the significant medical burden of hMPV in older adults. VXB-221 has been evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials as a monovalent component and comparator for Vicebio's multivalent respiratory vaccine candidates, such as the trivalent VXB-251.
