Overview

VXM01 is an orally administered, live-attenuated bacterial DNA cancer vaccine that uses *Salmonella typhi* Ty21a as a vector to deliver a plasmid encoding vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2). The drug is designed to induce a targeted cytotoxic T-cell response against VEGFR2-expressing cells in the tumor vasculature. By targeting the tumor stroma rather than tumor cells directly, VXM01 disrupts blood supply to tumors and may enhance immune cell infiltration. It has demonstrated safety and immunogenicity in phase I/II trials for advanced pancreatic cancer and recurrent glioblastoma. The primary developer is VAXIMM under license from Merck KGaA; Pfizer has also been involved in development[3][4][5][6][8].
