Overview

**VXN-Toxo** is an experimental intranasal vaccine developed by Vaxinano for preventing toxoplasmosis caused by *Toxoplasma gondii*. It consists of purified, inactivated *T. gondii* tachyzoites conjugated to inert, non-toxic lipid-core maltodextrin nanoparticles (Stellar-NP platform), produced under GMP conditions. The nanoparticles enhance mucosal delivery, prolong antigen residence in the nasal cavity, and stimulate strong Th1-polarized immune responses without inducing anti-*T. gondii* antibodies or crossing blood-brain barriers. It has demonstrated efficacy and excellent safety (no adverse effects) in mice, sheep, non-human primates, and large-scale vaccination of 784 captive wildlife animals across 58 species in 20 zoos (2017-2025), significantly reducing toxoplasmosis mortality.[1][2]
