Overview

VY2149 is a novel small molecule inhibitor of glutaminyl-peptide cyclotransferase and glutaminyl-peptide cyclotransferase-like protein (QPCT/L), developed by Vivoryon Therapeutics. It is designed to target inflammation and fibrosis, with a primary focus on kidney diseases such as diabetic nephropathy and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The drug acts by inhibiting QPCT/L enzymes, which are involved in the formation of pro-inflammatory pyroglutamate-modified proteins that drive inflammatory and fibrotic processes in the kidney. Preclinical studies have shown that VY2149 has improved cellular uptake and pharmacokinetics compared to earlier compounds, making it a promising candidate for further development in diabetic kidney disease (DKD), CKD, and potentially other inflammatory or fibrotic conditions[1][2][3][4][5].
